During a work experience at IKEA Winnipeg, I had the chance to illustrate a large wall graphic. The task was to create an illustration,
8 meters by 4 meters, that, “called out IKEA’s sustainability commitment, highlighted their local initiatives, and created a meaningful connection with customers by using landmarks and elements unique to Winnipeg.”
A river, loosely based on the Red, was used to contain many Winnipeg landmarks, and a neighbourhood filled with typical Winnipeg buildings provided space to show the many local initiatives that IKEA coworkers are involved in.
The mural was printed on adhesive-backed vinyl and mounted on one of the store walls. For flexibility, all callouts and text are stuck to the wall on top of the original vinyl so that they can be changed out or removed as necessary.
